Obituary

Willie Head, mother and beloved member of the community passed away January 2, 2024 at Creekside Retirement Community in Huntsville Texas. She was 92 years old.

Willie was born in Red Rock, Texas; grew up in Lockhart, Texas and attended Southwest Texas State College where she received her bachelor's degree.  She enjoyed the honors of cheerleader and Miss Southwest Texas while at STSU.

While teaching in Victoria, Texas she met the love of her life, J. J. Head, on a blind date.  After they married on July 1, 1956, Willie moved to Huntsville and took a position here where she taught for 25 years.  She was a teacher, coach and mentor to many.

After leaving teaching she opened a State Farm Insurance Agency for 18 years. At the age of 71,  Willie won the title of National Senior Pro Rodeo World Champion Barrel Racer and All-Around Champion Cowgirl.

Willie is preceded in death by J. J. Head, her husband of 58 years, son-in-law David Peters and Grandson Brody Beaver.

She is survived by daughters Jenna Beaver and husband Joe, Jackie Peters-Hudgins and husband Hudson; grandchildren, J. C. Peters, Dalyn Peters-Dabney, Sam Hudgins and Seth Hudgins; great grandchildren Corbin Reat and Guhnar Hillman; nieces Cindy Caracci and Gala Taylor Ehler; nephews Charles Hamblin, Ronnie Hamblin, Donnie Hamblin, A. T.  Pittman, Gary Pittman, Guy Riemenshneider and Audie James Baker. Willie's nephews will serve as pallbearers along with J. C. Peters, Corbin Reat, John Douch and Koby Douch.

Willie would have us recognize close family friends Ronda and Clarence Cooper; her good friends Pat Oliphant and Darlene Tubb, along with Dr. Toronjo and Dr. Olson and all the wonderful friends from Creekside.

Willie was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church where she was active in teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She served on many committees and loved the nursery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Huntsville Building Fund.
