Walter Glenn Cooksey, beloved Husband, Daddy, Papaw, Pastor, Brother and Friend passed away on April 6, 2024, surrounded by his family. After a short battle with cancer, the Lord took him home. He was 71 years old.

Glenn was born on December 17, 1952 in Huntsville, TX to parents, Walter and Louise Cooksey. He was raised in Oakhurst and Huntsville, TX and graduated from Huntsville High School in 1971, where he played football and threw shot put and discus. He loved music and played bass guitar and sang with the band Country Gold, for two years, traveling around Texas.

He began his TDCJ career as a junior in high school, working weekends and summers. He went on to be promoted as Plant Manager of the Stainless Plant at the O.L. Luther Unit in Navasota, TX, which he helped build from the ground up. One of his favorite projects was building and installing bleachers at The Zone inside Kyle Field at Texas A&M University in College Station, TX. He retired from the State of Texas with 30 years and 4 months of service in 1999.

After retirement, Glenn went back to work as a Regional Sales Manager for Willoughby Industries and had his second retirement after 10 years with the company. Glenn was an adored pastor for 40 years. He was ordained by the deacons of Oakhurst Full Gospel Church in 1978, and later went on to attend seminary school at Houston Baptist College in Houston, TX. He pastored at Harmony Baptist Church and Millican Baptist Church and taught the College Sunday school class at First Baptist Church in Navasota, TX, before serving in his final role as pastor at Oakhurst Full Gospel Church in Oakhurst, TX for over 16 years. Glenn loved his congregations and served them so well. He led with all his heart and would do anything for anyone. He loved to sing specials in all of his Churches. His favorite songs to sing were "Midnight Cry" and "Beulah Land." He loved to study the Bible every day and he wrote and sent out a daily text devotional to his church members, family and friends.

Glenn met and married his sweetheart, Joanna Reynolds in 1974. They were best friends who did everything together. They loved to fish, hunt, cook, and spend time with family and friends. They loved watching classic movies and all kinds of sports. They enjoyed watching their grandchildren play sports, even traveling out of state with them for baseball tournaments. Glenn's biggest joy in life was being a husband, father and grandfather. He and Joanna have three children, Toby, Michelle and Michael, who were the light of his life. Glenn was the greatest Papaw to his eight grandchildren who absolutely loved him. He made every effort to be with them, teach them about life, and show them a great time. He loved
his family so deeply and was always present for everything. He was the love of their lives.

Glenn loved life and he always made things fun. He was hilarious and his sense of humor was contagious. He loved to tell funny stories and use voices and you knew he was happy when he was singing or whistling, which was most of the time. He loved to cook, garden, raise his chickens, ducks and most recently, his calf named Baby. He loved to fish and hunt with his sons and grandsons, and drive his Polaris Ranger. He loved to take trips to the "sunny beach," as he called it, to visit his daughter. He was a constant source of positivity, always encouraging everyone around him and loving them unconditionally. His priority was to lead people to Jesus and he lived by example every day. He was a light in this world
and is hugely missed.

Glenn is survived by his wife of 50 years, Joanna; their children and grandchildren, Toby Cooksey (wife,Julie and children, Colby, Jaxson, Keegan, Meadow and River), Michelle Cooksey (partner, Marcus Haralson), and Michael Cooksey (wife, Crystal and children, Carson and Cahan); his siblings, Carolyn Hanselman and Reagan Cooksey (wife, Vicki); and many loved nieces, nephews and cousins.

Glenn is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Louise Cooksey and his granddaughter, Alexandra Rahman.

Services will be held on Friday, April 12, 2024 at Northside Baptist Church in Huntsville, TX and officiated by Pastor Reagan Cooksey, with visitation from 9:00AM – 11:00AM and the funeral at 11:00AM. A graveside service will follow at Center Hill Cemetery in Oakhurst, TX, with fellowship and lunch after at Oakhurst Full Gospel Church in Oakhurst, TX.
