Wahlers Herman Gastauer, Jr. "Buz" was born June 2, 1945 in Kansas to parents Wahlers Herman Gastauer, Sr. and Odessa Maude Gastauer.

After the family moved many times, he ended up in New Orleans, Louisiana. At the age of 16, Buz joined the Army and was stationed in Germany for the entire time of his service.  He was on a tank crew and was a supervisor in the Officers' Club in Germany.

After 4 years in the Army, Buz went back to New Orleans where he was a police officer and he held various other jobs while he attended college.

Buz moved to Houston in 1968 to work in the oil industry and worked his way up to an electrician. In 1972 he went to Indonesia with the oil industry and stayed for 2 years. In 1978, he went to Saudi Arabia with the oil industry and while he was there his son, Scott Travis, Sr. was born in 1977. Buz was not only an electrician in Saudi, but was a supervisor who was tasked with building a water system in addition to all the electrical he did and the training of the workers he supervised. He was there for three years and then returned to Houston. Buz received his Associates Degree and continued to work in the oil industry until he retired in 1999.

Buz purchased land outside of New Waverly and started building a house there. He had a Wood Mizer and cut the wood from his land and used it to build the house. Buz was a skilled woodworker and crafted many pieces of furniture that he gave away to family and friends.

Buz has two grandsons; Scott Travis, Jr. born in 1999 and Beaux Travis born in 2015. He also has one great-grandson Maximilian Travis Perez-Gastauer, born in 2022.

Buz is survived by his partner of 9 years, Linda Bone and his dog Trotsky. He is also survived by sisters Kathleen Eitel and Ruby Honey Gastauer; brother George Antonie "Tony" Gastauer and half brother Terry Gastauer as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. His beloved younger brother Henry Gastauer is with Buz in Heaven.
