On January 17, 2026 at approximately 1am, Thomas Houston Finney was called home. He was born March 2, 1944 in Midway, Tx to Brassell & Naomi Alice Finney. Thomas was the youngest of three.

He is preceded in death by his wife Jane Virginia by less than 2 months; his parents Brassell & Naomi Finney, and his brothers James and Donald Finney.

He leaves behind his only son, John Finney and his wife Leah, Grandchildren Laurence & Jessica Finney Weiss , David Finney, Nicole Mulka, Virginia Finney and  Dorian Milton. He also leaves behind 5 Great Grandchildren, Weston, Branston, Elijah, Eyston and Ezyran.

Thomas grew up in Midway, attending Midway school until the school merged with Madisonville ISD, and  finished in Madisonville, Tx. After graduation he attended  Steven F Austin University for a while and finished up at Sam Houston State University where he received his degree in photography. Afterward, he enrolled in the United States Army where he served from 1967-1970.

He loved photography. It gave him the release in life he needed to escape everyday stress. When he was stationed in Germany he loved taking pictures on duty or in the park off-duty.

In 1982, he met the love of his life, Jane. Instead of waiting for a big wedding they eloped on June 27th and were married at the Elwood Methodist Church in Elwood , Texas. Jane was a single parent when they married and Thomas loved his new son so much that he adopted John in 1983.

Thomas worked at Reliable Auto Parts in Huntsville, Texas for over 35 years. Before marrying Jane, he spent every lunch at the Cafe Texan on the square. After marriage you would find him  at Rather Park at lunch. He ate peanut butter, mayonnaise and banana sandwiches everyday and loved them almost as much as he loved smoking his pipe.

After retiring from Reliable Auto Parts, he worked with Jane at the methadone clinic in town. In 2008, he and Jane retired and moved back to Midway where they lived in the remodeled home in which he was born.

When Jane was diagnosed with Parkinsons Disease, Thomas became her caretaker for over 20 years until a year and a half ago when he couldn't handle it anymore and the family was forced to put her in a Nursing Home.

After this Thomas loved doing yard work, smoking his pipe, reading and playing Mahjong on his iPhone as well as visiting with his family.

Roughly 4 months ago Thomas fell and cracked his hip in the front. He tried for a month to do it on his own at home until he decided to go into rehab to get strong.

When Jane passed less than 2 months ago, it changed everything for him. The last visit he had with his hospice , while coherent, he told her he was ready to go surprise Jane.

He loved his family more than anything. He will be greatly missed.
