Ruth Hancock Robertson was born in Wichita Falls, Texas, on March 3, 1930, to Creed Haskins Hancock and Verna Long Hancock.  Ruth passed away on November 23, 2022, at her residence in Huntsville, Texas.

Ruth attended school in Plainview, Texas, until she enrolled in The Hockaday School, an all- women's college preparatory school in Dallas, Texas.  She then attended and graduated from the University of Texas with a B.A. in Art.

Poole Robertson, Jr., and Ruth married on June 7, 1952, in the First Baptist Church of Plainview, Texas.  After a brief time in Lubbock, the couple moved to Poole's hometown of Abilene, Texas, where their only child, Pamela, was born.

While in Abilene for the next sixty-plus years, the couple had their membership in St. Paul United Methodist Church.  While there, Ruth taught children's Sunday School classes.  She also volunteered weekly delivering meals with the local Meals on Wheels.

Although Ruth graduated from the University of Texas, she married a maroon-blooded Texas Aggie.  Along with the families of many of Poole's childhood friends from Abilene and A&M, she attended all home games (and a few away games) for years, through even the season of 2021.

Ruth, Poole, and Pam boated, fished, and water-skied the lakes of Texas.  They also enjoyed annual vacations in the same small town in the Rockies of Colorado.  Ruth fished the lakes and gamely rode on the narrow Jeep trails through the mountains.  She was an accomplished student of wildlife, birds, and flowers of the area.  From those annual trips at the same period each year, Ruth made many lasting friendships among other vacationers, as well as area locals.

On Thanksgiving weekend of 2017, with help from family and friends, Ruth closed out sixty years of life in one house in Abilene and moved to Huntsville.  There, she lived with her daughter and son-in-law.  She also returned to her "Baptist roots" at Elkins Lake Baptist Church.  She actively participated in a Sunday School class, Bible studies, worship, and mission activities (including serving as elevator monitor during Vacation Bible School).  She enjoyed staying for choir practice on Wednesday nights, "just to listen."  She also loved listening to rehearsals and concerts of Belle Chanson, a Huntsville women's choir in which her daughter sang.

Ruth is survived by her daughter, Pam Hugghins, and husband, Ken, of Huntsville, Texas; her grandson, Kyle Hugghins, and wife, Cara, of Houston Texas; her granddaughter, Kelly Neely, and husband, John, of Buda, Texas; and two great grandsons, Jackson Neely and Everett Hugghins.  Additional survivors include her sister-in-law, Gloria Robertson; niece, Lynn McKendrick, and husband, Mike, and their children; nephew, Rick Robertson, and wife, Kim, and their children.  Each of these Ruth loved as if her own.

Ruth was preceded in death by her sister, Barbara, who died at twelve years of age; her parents, Creed and Verna; and her husband, Poole.

Ruth will lie in state on Friday, December 2, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Heritage Oak Funeral Home in Huntsville, Texas, for those who would like to quietly show their respect and support.

A celebration of Ruth's life will be held at Elkins Lake Baptist Church on Saturday, December 3, at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. Ken Hugghins officiating.  Visitation with the family will follow.  Interment will be on Thursday, December 8, at 12:00 p.m. at Elmwood Memorial Park in Abilene, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions in Ruth's memory be made to Elkins Lake Baptist Church Building Fund; Senior Center of Walker County/Meals on Wheels; or the charity of your choice.
