Rodney Lynn Cooper, 65, of Huntsville, Texas, passed away tragically on October 21, 2025. Born on April 10, 1960, in Odessa, Texas, Rodney lived a life marked by faith, family, and service to others.

Rodney dedicated thirty years of service to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, where his leadership and commitment made a lasting impact on countless lives. Before retiring in 2009, he served as Correctional Institutions Deputy Division Director for Prison and Jail Operations, a role in which he led with fairness, respect, and compassion. After retirement, Rodney continued his lifelong dedication to public service as Executive Director for LaSalle Corrections and as Private Jail Representative for the Texas Jail Association, where he was admired for his professionalism, wisdom, and integrity.

Outside of his career, Rodney lived a life deeply rooted in faith and family. He was a devoted member of Northside Baptist Church in Huntsville, where he faithfully served as both a Sunday School teacher and a deacon. His love for the Lord was evident in the way he treated others—with kindness, humility, and grace.

Rodney was an avid pilot who loved flying small airplanes whenever he had the opportunity. Rodney was also a lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan, cheering on his team through every season. Whether he was watching a game, spending time outdoors, or attending his grandchildren's activities and events, he was happiest when surrounded by his family.

Rodney was known for his steady presence, gentle humor, and generous heart. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and proud grandfather — affectionately known as "PeePaw" to his older grandchildren and "PoPo" to his youngest. His grandchildren — Bryce Davidson, Bree Davidson, Remi Wheeler, Riana Wheeler, Regan Douglas, Abby Carter, Emma Carter, and Eli Carter — were the light of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them.

He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Gayle Cooper; his beloved daughters, Amanda Wheeler and Kalyn Carter; sons-in-law Randy Wheeler and Ronnie Carter; his father, Marshall Cooper; sister, Pam Thomure; and brother, Allen Cooper.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Wanda Cooper.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Rodney's life on Monday, October 27, 2025, at Northside Baptist Church in Huntsville, Texas. Rodney's life was one of faith, loyalty, and love. Though his time here was far too short, his strength, devotion, and example will continue to guide those who were blessed to know him.
