In Loving Memory of Roberto "Bobby" Nunez

September 7, 1963 – June 9, 2026

Roberto "Bobby" Nunez, lovingly known to many as "Uncle Bob," passed away peacefully on June 9, 2026, at the age of 62. Born on September 7, 1963, in Fort Stockton, Texas, Bobby spent more than 30 years building a life and community in Huntsville, Texas, where he became a beloved and unforgettable presence to countless family members, friends, neighbors, and strangers who quickly became friends.

Bobby was a man of immense stature, standing proudly at 6'4", but his heart was even bigger. He was incredibly kind, thoughtful, giving, supportive, generous, and deeply caring. He truly never met a stranger. Whether someone had known him for decades or only moments, Bobby had a gift for making people feel seen, valued, and loved. He would give his last dollar to someone in need without hesitation and was known throughout the Huntsville community for his warmth, generosity, and unmistakable presence.

Most in the community knew him affectionately as "Uncle Bob," while to his family he was Brother, Son, Uncle, PawPaw, and most importantly, Dad/Daddy. He gave the very best hugs, advice, encouragement, and unconditional love. He was the person everyone turned to for guidance, wisdom, and support.

Bobby was a proud former collegiate football player at Rice University and a lifelong lover of sports. While he enjoyed athletics himself, his greatest joy came from cheering on the people he loved. Whether it was his children, nieces, nephews, or grandchildren, Bobby was always their biggest fan. Consistently showing up to games, standing on the sidelines or in the stands, offering encouragement, coaching, and unwavering support. To many, he was more than family; he was a mentor and trusted advisor both on and off the field and court.

A successful businessman, Bobby proudly co-owned Rucon with his brother, Jerry. He worked incredibly hard, led generously, and built lasting relationships everywhere he went.

Bobby also earned the rank of Shodan (Black Belt) in Shotokan Karate, demonstrating the discipline, dedication, and strength that defined so much of his character.

He appreciated life's simple joys in grand ways, especially sharing delicious meals surrounded by those he loved. Bobby truly ate like the king he was, believing food was best enjoyed around a table filled with laughter, stories, and family. Some local restaurants even lovingly referred to him as "the mayor" because of how warmly he was known and welcomed everywhere he went.

A devoted Catholic and true believer in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, Bobby's faith was steadfast. While grounded in his Catholic beliefs, he welcomed and respected people of all denominations with love and grace.

Bobby carried a profound love for his hometown of Fort Stockton, Texas. Though Huntsville was home for many years, Fort Stockton always remained home in his heart, where he now returns to his final resting place beside his beloved mother, Martha Salazar, whose loss at Bobby's young age of 22 shaped his life forever. He honored her memory daily by sharing stories, keeping her spirit alive through love and remembrance. Now, Bobby's own memory will live on in the countless stories, laughter, lessons, and love he leaves behind.

Bobby was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Refugio Vara "R.V." Nunez and Martha Salazar.

He is survived by his loving daughters: Logan Conty and husband Donald Conty, Whitney Nunez and husband Austin Fay, and Bailey Nunez; his cherished grandchildren, Decker Fay and Saylor Fay; his brother, Jerald "Jerry" Nunez and wife Lauren Nunez; his stepmother, Linda Nunez; nephew Jon J Nunez and wife Krystal Nunez, and Alden Alphonso; nieces Shelby Owens and husband Donald Owens Jr., Liberty Nunez, and Ella Nunez; grand-nephews Ryson Nunez and Lyndon Nunez; grand-nieces Viviann Nunez, Rayanna Owens, and Amara Owens; and countless extended family members, dear friends, and community members whose lives were forever changed by his kindness and love.

We find comfort in knowing Bobby is now in the loving arms of Jesus Christ, reunited with those who went before him, and at peace. His memory will be treasured, his stories will be shared, and his legacy of unconditional love will live on for generations to come.

Services for Bobby will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2026 at Northside Baptist Church in Huntsville, Texas with visitation taking place from 1PM-2PM and funeral services beginning at 2PM. Interment will follow on Saturday, June 20, 2026 at Saint Joseph Cemetery in Fort Stockton, Texas.
