Robert Edward Morgan, Jr, was welcomed into the world by Robert Edward and Cora Walker Morgan on December 17, 1929, in Port Arthur, TX, where he spent his early years with siblings Donald and Cora Louise. He attended high school in Bay City, TX, and younger brother Richard was born there. In Bay City he met classmate and future wife Wanda. He attended the University of Texas and married Wanda in 1950 prior to graduation but after she completed an RN program.

After being drafted by the Army during the Korean Conflict, Robert was stationed in Augusta, Georgia, where daughter Connie was born. He was later stationed in Linz, Austria, working with Military Intelligence across the Danube from the Russian-occupied area. In his office, the Army interviewed people who had left the Russian zone about where military strongholds and weapons were located and Robert drew maps based on this information. He enjoyed his assignment to Austria and met his co-worker and life-long friend, Trix and her husband, Michael in Linz.

Robert, Wanda, and Connie returned to Austin after Robert completed his two years of military service. Twins Karen and Bobby were born the year Robert graduated from UT with a Bachelor of Architecture. The Morgan family followed Robert's career to San Antonio, Houston, and the Galveston area. There he partnered with another UT grad to form Hoover & Morgan, AIA in Texas City. They specialized in public buildings, such as churches and schools. During this time period Robert was intrigued with the construction of the Houston Astrodome, the "Eighth Wonder of the World" and the family made regular drive-bys to check on its progress.

A move in the mid-70's took Robert and Wanda back to San Antonio, a city they had loved since his first job after graduation. They enjoyed international travel and made many trips to Austria. Robert planned their first trip using using Frommer's "Europe on $5 a day" and actually made it work. Karen and Bobby went, too, and celebrated their 15th birthdays while driving through Europe in a rented Volkswagen bus.

Airplanes had always been a fascination to Robert. In Austin, he often took Connie to watch planes land and take off at the airport. After taking flying lessons in the early '70s, he purchased a Piper Cherokee and named her "Juliet", based on her call letters that started with a "J." Wanda was not quite the enthusiast he was, but traveled with him around Texas to Bay City, Huntsville, Port Arthur, and sometimes just to fly somewhere, land, and take off before returning to the Castroville Airport. Their longest flight was to Long Beach, California, to visit Wanda's mother.

In addition to flying, Robert enjoyed remodeling their San Antonio house. Bobby helped "kick out" the ceiling in the kitchen/dining area in order to vault the ceiling. One July 4th weekend, he and son-in-law Bob re-roofed the house despite the 95 degree temperature. Robert laid terracotta tile and parquet throughout the house. He also created a patio where he and Wanda often enjoyed happy hour.

After retirement from architecture, he began painting. As a teenager he had done watercolors and pastels of various water birds, but as an adult he turned to bluebonnets and country scenes in the style of San Antonio artist Julian Onderdonk. More international travel ensued, and Robert and Wanda went to Italy, Spain, Switzerland, England, China, Australia and New Zealand. They cruised the Mediterranean with Karen, Laura, and Molly, and took a Hawaiian cruise to celebrate their 60th anniversary. Car trips to Ontario, Canada, and California were frequent too because Robert loved driving almost as much as flying.

In 2022, he and Wanda moved to Huntsville to be close to Connie and Bob, leaving their beloved home in San Antonio. Robert died on July 10, 2024, and will be much missed by Wanda, Connie & Bob Parker, Karen Morgan and daughters Laura & Molly, grandson Steven Parker, wife Estella and their daughters Tiera & Cecelia, great grandson Michael Woodard and the Woodard family, brother Donald Morgan, sister Cora Jackson, cousin Sherman Tucker, Gingersnap and Penny. He was predeceased by son Bobby, granddaughter Christi, her husband Chris Woodard, and brother Richard Morgan.

A memorial service will be held at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 5019 Sam Houston Ave., Huntsville, on Friday, July 26, at 11:00 a.m.
