Paula Kay Smith Moak "Paula Kay" was born in Huntsville, Texas on July 19, 1937. She passed away in College Station, Texas on June 25, 2023. She is survived by her loving daughter, Pamela Kay Moak, and son, Sam Adolphus Moak, as well as two grandsons, Jacob Alexander Moak and William "Billy" Moak. Also survived by her brother, D.W. "Buddy" Smith and wife, Larue Smith as well as nephew, Shawn Carl Smith, and niece, April Kay Smith.

After graduating from Huntsville High School (May 1954), Paula attended Sam Houston Teachers College and was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority. After graduating, she moved to Houston, Texas where she met Oliver James Moak and they were married on May 29, 1960.

Paula Kay was a true servant. Even after graduation, she remained active with the Alpha Delta Pi on the local and national level, acting as the National Secretary for several years. She was also very active with the Huntsville High School Alumni Association and met with many friends each summer to keep those connections.

Paula was a lifetime Silver Spur member of the Walker County Fair Association, a long time active board member and worked on producing the annual Fair catalog for years. You may have seen her working rodeo or general admissions, which she loved to do, and did for her grandson's "parent work hours" with her son well into her 80's. She also loved attending the Fair dances to dance and watch others dance. She passed this on to her son and grandsons, albeit they were reluctant. She helped with the Sweet Thing's Buyers Group, even doing the mail outs this year.

The Moaks returned to Huntsville to raise their children in 1971. Paula Kay began to work for the newly created Region VI Education Service Center under Max Slaughter and remained there for 37 years. She worked as an assistant, test coordinator, and with the GED program under almost every Director at Region VI.

Paula also worked for her brother, D.W. "Buddy" Smith, at Superior Cattle Sales and at the Texas Parole Board. When she finally retired from Region VI. She worked for Rusty & Mitsy Davis at the Trailer Store for over 10 years. Mom wasn't lazy and never let us be either. The whole time Paula worked she was also the greatest Mom and Nana to Pamela, Sam and her two grandsons, Jacob and Billy.

We will honor Mom's life with a celebration at First Christian Church, where she was a lifetime member, at 1800 Ave. R, Huntsville, TX 77340 on Sunday, July 2, 2023 beginning at 12:15 p.m. In lieu of flowers please continue to honor Paula's legacy by contributing to the Sweet Thing's Buyers Group for the Walker County Fair Association or First Christian Church of Huntsville.
