Nancy Rose Hendrix, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, mentor, and woman of unwavering faith, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2026, at the age of 81.

Nancy was born on January 5, 1945, in Sparta, Illinois, to Tony and Inez Lanasky. She spent her childhood in her mother's chain of restaurants throughout southern Illinois, where she developed an early love for people and the joy of serving others. It was during those years that she met the love of her life, William "Bill" Hendrix. The two were married on November 10, 1962, in Judsonia, Arkansas. Together, they built a life centered on family and love, raising four children and sharing 45 years of marriage before Bill's passing.

Nancy dedicated more than 20 years of her life to Walmart, where she served as a store manager and touched countless lives through her work. She never met a stranger—only friends she hadn't made yet. Throughout her distinguished career, she became much more than a dedicated manager. She was a mentor, a trusted friend, and a bright light to everyone fortunate enough to know her. Whether helping a customer, welcoming a new coworker, or offering a kind word to someone having a difficult day, Nancy freely gave her time, compassion, and heart. Her strong work ethic, generosity, and genuine love for people left a lasting impression on everyone around her.

Beyond her career and service to others, Nancy had a special passion and extraordinary talent for baking. Her kitchen was often a place of creativity, warmth, and love, where she shared her gifts with family, friends, and those in need of a little extra encouragement. She took great joy in creating delicious treats and baked goods, but her greatest joy came from giving them away. For Nancy, baking was more than a talent—it was one of the many ways she expressed her love and cared for others. Whether preparing something special for a family gathering, sharing her creations with friends, or simply brightening someone's day with something she had made herself, she gave generously and without hesitation.

Nancy was also proud of her journey of sobriety, celebrating 39 years of sobriety and recovery. Her journey was a testament to her strength, courage, perseverance, and faith. She understood the importance of second chances and the power of God's grace, and her life became an example of hope and transformation to those who knew her. She carried that experience with humility and used it to encourage others facing their own struggles.
Following her retirement, Nancy devoted herself to growing deeper in her faith in Jesus Christ. Through seasons of adversity and profound heartache—including the loss of her husband, mother, and daughter—her faith became an enduring source of strength and hope. She found comfort in God's love and sought to share that love with others.

Nancy was an active and cherished member of Northside Baptist Church in Huntsville, Texas, where she served in several ministries. She especially loved serving alongside her extended kitchen family, whom she adored, at the Wednesday night meals, where she welcomed and loved on families throughout the church. Through the Women of Northside ministry, Nancy openly shared her testimony and her faith, encouraging and impacting the lives of many women in the church and throughout the community. She also had the blessing of making a pilgrimage to Jerusalem, an experience that deepened her faith and remained a meaningful part of her spiritual journey.

In her final years, Nancy was surrounded by the love and care of her family and church family. She was lovingly cared for by her son, Bill Hendrix, and his wife, Jacquie, and their children; her grandson, Bobby Warren, and his wife, Amy and their children; and the congregation and deacons of Northside Baptist Church. Their love, presence, and devotion were a beautiful reflection of the love Nancy had so freely given throughout her life.

Nancy was preceded in death by her father, Tony Lanasky; her mother, Inez Taylor-Farley; her beloved husband, William "Bill" Hendrix; her brother, Tony "Butch" Lanasky; and her daughter, Judith Anderson.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and faith through her surviving son and two daughters, her two brothers and sister, 12 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews, as well as countless friends and loved ones whose lives were touched by knowing her.

Nancy's life was a testament to kindness, faith, perseverance, recovery, and the transformative power of love. She welcomed everyone, shared her gifts generously, and trusted God through life's greatest joys and deepest sorrows. Her family and friends will forever cherish her memory, her laughter, her generosity, her delicious baking, and the love she gave so freely.

Though she is deeply missed, Nancy's family finds comfort in knowing that her faith has become sight and that she is now at peace in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Her life was a gift. Her love was a legacy. Her faith was her strength.

A memorial service to celebrate Nancy's life will be held on Tuesday, August 4, 2026 at 11:00am at Northside Baptist Church, 1207 FM 980, Huntsville, TX 77320.
