On August 6, 2026, Mike Bruce, 87, went home to be with the Lord and beloved wife.

Mike Bruce was born on November 4, 1938, in West Sandy, Texas to Henry Bruce and Anna Belle Nixon Bruce. He was an integral part of the Huntsville community. Between 1961 - 1965, he served in the Air Force achieving the rank of Airman First Class. As part of his service during the Vietnam War, he was stationed in Okinawa, Japan with Strategic Air Command. He carried the honor of serving his country, both close to his heart, and throughout his life. In 1964, he met the love of his life, Joanne Emily Dodge, at a USO dance in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Thus began a love story for the ages. After Mike and Joanne married on November 25,1966, the couple made their home in Huntsville, Texas, where Mike joined his family business, Bruce Plumbing Company. He was the first number on so many locals rolodex. Between 1968 and 1979, Mike and Joanne welcomed four children, Michael, Kevin, Stephanie, and Jason. In 1979, Mike earned the distinction of Master Plumber and remained a trusted tradesman, serving the Huntsville community until his retirement in 2022.

Mike lived a life devoted to God and service. He was easily recognized by his impressive handlebar mustache. Mike never met a stranger and was loved by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He could endear himself to any stranger, and for that he and his stories will endure long past his time on earth. Mike was known to say just the right thing to garner a smile and steal the hearts of all he came across. To know the man was to love him, simply put. He was a steady, solid man you could depend on. Over the years, Mike and Joanne opened their home to numerous family members and friends in times of need. Their home was always a safe haven. Always. He lived a life guided by his deep faith, and it was solidified in his character. Mike was a member of The Gideons International, as well as a regular fixture at the HEARTS Veterans Museum where he shared many an early morning coffee, as well as memories, and those well beloved Mike Bruce yarns. He was an active member of Farris Chapel Methodist Church. Sundays were something to look forward to throughout his life. He developed a lifelong love of photography while in the military, and he spent his life using his camera to document everything around him, especially his family and their adventures. His family was his greatest love and grandest accomplishment. Mike will be greatly missed by his family and his friends.

Mike is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joanne, parents Henry and Anna Belle Bruce, two sons Michael Bruce and Jason Bruce, brothers Henry Jr., Ray, James, and twin brother Pat and sister Vergie. Mike is survived by his son Kevin Bruce (wife Beatrice), daughter Stephanie Bruce (dog Hugo Boss), brother Blue Bruce, granddaughter Maddison Kosters (husband Gerrit Kosters), granddaughter Regan Bruce (life partner Kyle Laake), grandkids Damian Bruce, Malcolm Bruce, Madison Goss, Kevan Sims, and Kimberly Sims, great grandchildren, Adam, Levi, Cory, Bryson, and Emma, along with numerous other dear family members and close friends.

Visitation will be held Thursday, August 13 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Heritage Oak Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will take place on Friday, August 14 from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. at Heritage Oak Funeral Home and will be immediately followed by a Graveside Service with Military Honors at Farris Cemetery.
