Leonard Erwin Harris, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and dedicated serviceman, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 20, 2024, at the age of 81. He was born on December 21, 1942, in Trinity, Texas. He was the beloved son of Rosa Bell Tantzen and step-father Wilber Tantzen.  Leonard spent his early years in the Nederland, Texas area.

In 1961, Leonard answered the call to serve and joined the military, dedicating over 20 years of his life to protecting our nation. A proud Vietnam Veteran, he retired from military service in 1981, leaving behind a legacy of courage and commitment.

After his military career, Leonard embarked on a new chapter with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, where he worked for 20 years. His retirement led him to various roles as a security officer, mechanic, and electrician. Retirement was not for Leonard and eventually he returned to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice to maintain the TDCJ airplane, a role he cherished and excelled at, as well as working fr the airport for many years. His love for aviation and dedication to his work were evident to all who knew him. Leonard was also and avid hunter and fisherman.

Leonard is survived by his daughter, Tina Garcia; grandsons, Jose (Tony) Garcia and Alejandro (Alex) Garcia; and great-grandchildren, Adrian Garcia, Gabby Garcia, Caden Garcia, and Issac Garcia.

Leonard will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his country, and his work. His legacy of love, service, and passion for life will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visitation at Heritage Oak Funeral Home in Huntsville, Texas, on Wednesday, October 30th, 2024, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A funeral service to honor Leonard's life will be held at the same location on Thursday, October 31st, 2024, from 10:00 am to 10:30 am.
