Kathryn Jo Breder Decker passed away on March 14, 2023. She was born to Glen and Marie Marshall in Silsbee, Texas on June 18, 1943, the third of four daughters. Upon graduating high school in Silsbee, she attended nursing school at the Beaumont Baptist hospital in 1963 becoming one of the first formally trained Registered Nurses in the state. Throughout her 45 years as a Registered Nurse, she essentially worked all aspects of nursing. She frequently reflected upon times spent in Labor and Delivery, Emergency Room, Hospital work, Director of Nursing at the Fair Park Nursing Home (now Huntsville Health Care), Walker County Health Department, Texas Department of Criminal Justice, and finally retiring from the University of Texas Medical Branch at the Wynne Unit located in Huntsville, Texas.
Throughout her life Kathryn was active in her local Baptist Church and was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist in Huntsville. She kept her retirement days filled with her passions for quilting and shopping until her failing health limited her activities, though she never gave up window-shopping until she was unable to travel.
She is survived by her husband John Thomas 'Tom' Decker of Phelps, Texas of 25 years of marriage and her younger sister, Jane Miller. Also surviving are Kathryn's two sons Glen Breder and Wes Breder, daughter-in-law Lisa Breder, stepdaughter Dana Bell, and her stepson-in-law Chris Bell. Failing to mention her grandchildren and step-grandchildren Jake and his wife Chelsea Breder, Jordan and her husband Dustin Clarkson, Kallie Breder, Loren Breder, Levi Breder, Elizabeth Bell, Johnathon Bell, great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren Bethany Bell, Matthew Bell, Caleb Breder, Colt Breder, Case Breder, Collins Clarkson, Coen Clarkson, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Kathryn was preceded into death by her parents, older sisters, Betty Jones and Billie DuBose, her husband of 33 years Paul Breder, and her step great-grandchild Mark Bell.
