Julius Boldon "Shorty" Currie passed away peacefully Thursday, September 21, 2023, at Huntsville Memorial Hospital.

Shorty was born to Boldon "Hudge" and Mollie Mae "Cur-Cur" Capers Currie on November 23, 1930, in Point Blank, Texas, and was a life-long resident of San Jacinto County.

He is proceeded in death by his wife of 65 years, Juanita "Neat" Currie, parents Hudge and Mollie Mae Currie, brothers Robert "Bubba" Currie and Morris "Punk" Currie, and great granddaughter Alexis Purvis.

After attending Oakhurst schools, he started his ranching career working for Gibbs Brothers in Huntsville before venturing out on his independent career. Shorty began Currie Mowing where he built a longstanding relationship with Waterwood Improvement Association, whom he worked with for nearly 40 years. Beyond his career, Shorty enjoyed trail rides, driving his Kubota around counting his cattle, and helping at the San Jacinto County Fair.

He is survived by daughters Linda Blanks and Cathy (Harlan) Johnson; grandchildren Susan (Sam) Anthony, Julie (Ricky) Purvis, Leigh Ann (RayLynn) Ogletree, Katherine (Oscar) Alvarez, Harlan Johnson Jr., and Michael (Rachel) Johnson; great grandchildren Katie (Korey) Puffinbarger, Destiny Richmond, Justin (Ashley) Anthony, Chasity (David) Tubbe, Austin Anthony, Phybie Ogletree, Makenzie Purvis, Brenden Ogletree, Kolton Purvis, Faith Ogletree, Savannah Alvarez, Walker Alvarez, Natalie Johnson, and Michael Johnson Jr.; great great-grandchildren: Makalya, Madison, Skylar, Travis, Kallie, Easton, Emma, Nevaeh and numerous family and friends.

The family would like to thank Shorty's doctors and medical staff for their support and care throughout his enduring life. Never a stranger, Shorty's charismatic and friendly presence will be greatly missed by all those with which he encountered.
