God fulfilled His plan for Joe Randy Yancy here on earth on May 21, 2024. Jesus has come to carry him to Heaven. We long for the time to be with him.

Randy was born in Athens TX to Joseph Rex Yancy and Hazel Dean Lewis Yancy on October 3, 1947. He grew up in Murchison TX close to many loving family members. While living in Heidelberg, Mississippi during many of his adolescent years, he loved to play baseball and football. Randy graduated from Eastland High School, then began college at Henderson County Junior College and attended SHSU where he was involved in the rodeo team.

Randy's 30-year career at Texas Department of Corrections began in 1968 at the Ferguson Training School and he then made his way up through the system beginning at Jester I and moved on to the Wynne Unit as Farm Dairy Supervisor, Livestock Supervisor and Farm Manager.

Later he served as Ellis Farm Manager, Capt. Central Region Transportation, Capt. Inmate Transportation and was promoted to Major. He retired as Director of Inmate Transportation in 1997. He has said "I had a good ride! Lots of good people working with me made my job easy!"

Following his retirement he was a Consultant with TransCor and Prisoner Transport Services and during that time traveled many miles.

A mutual friend introduced Randy to Brenda in June of 1973 and they were married on June 15, 1974 at Harmony Baptist Church, Fisk TX. Randy loved to tell the story about how hot it was in that little country church when the window AC had to be turned off in order to hear the ceremony. And the first time he went to Gouldbusk TX in Coleman County to visit and meet Brenda's family she was in the field and had plowed under her red sneaker. He loved to make a good story of anything and had his own words, phrasing and nicknames for so many.

After 7 years of marriage God blessed Randy and Brenda with a miracle daughter, Tanna, who was the apple of his eyes! It has been said that he even wished those blue eyes on her. Family time was most important to Randy. They were later blessed with grandchildren, Mattie (MattieGirl), Tripp (Tripperdo), and Yance (YanceMan) who he doted over. As he had always done for Tanna he enjoyed all things they wanted to participate in. He carried on the tradition of constantly creating anything that would enhance whatever they were interested in.

Randy enjoyed participating in and attending sports events. He even went to the Dallas Cowboys very first game in 1960 and became a lifelong devoted Cowboy fan. Through the years he and Brenda also became great fans of the Houston Astros. He loved the outdoors and raising animals that he made into pets. He took great joy in his Yancy Spur Longhorn Ranch herd. He often said it is like hunting for Easter eggs when finding a new longhorn calf … you never know what color it was going to be! His love for horses and riding led him to enjoy competing in ranch hand rodeos and team roping. Spending time at the barn doing woodwork and piddling as he worked around the place were his hobbies.

Randy was a member of Northside Baptist Church and a faithful member of his Sunday School class.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Randy was our family rock. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of almost 50 years, Brenda Martin Yancy, daughter Tanna Lawson and husband Matt, and three grandchildren, Mattie, Tripp and Yance Lawson. He is also survived by two sister-in-laws and two brother-in-laws, Rhonda and Gary McConaughey and Marcia and Bill Wells; one niece, Kandra Foster, two nephews, Kirk McConaughey and Calvin Wells, six great nieces and nephews and four great great nieces and nephews along with numerous cousins.

Visitation will be Tuesday, May 28, 2024 from 5:00PM to 7:00PM at Heritage Oak Funeral Home, Huntsville TX. Service will be Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at 10AM at Northside Baptist Church, Huntsville TX. Interment to follow in Cline Prairie Cemetery.
