Obituary

Dr. Joe Edward Leggett Sr. passed away unexpectedly on February 18, 2026. He was born in Texarkana, Texas, to Joseph Leggett and Juanita Hood.

Dr. Leggett devoted his life to the field of psychiatry, earning his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. He completed his residency at the University of Missouri, where he served as Chief Resident in Psychiatry. In 1991, he returned to Texas to be closer to his family, reflecting the deep importance he placed on his loved ones throughout his life. He later retired after many years of dedicated service helping others through his profession. Joe was also a GIA graduate gemologist and worked side by side with Diane in the Jewlery business for over 30 years.

A man of strong faith and character, Dr. Leggett was a longtime member of Elkins Lake Baptist Church, where he faithfully taught Sunday School for over 30 years. He was well- versed in the Bible and found great purpose in sharing wisdom, guidance, and encouragement with those around him through both his faith and his work.

Above all, his greatest and proudest achievements were his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Diane; his six children, Joe Leggett Jr., Timothy Leggett, Kim Housley, Robert Leggett, David Leggett, and Brenda Leggett; as well as his sister, Janette Gammel of Dallas, Texas. He leaves behind numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews, extended family, and loved ones who will forever cherish his memory. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Evelyn Bryant and his brother Robert Leggett.

Dr. Leggett will be remembered for his faith, his intellect, his dedication to helping others, and the unwavering love he had for his family. His life was one of service, wisdom, and devotion, and his legacy will live on through the many lives he touched and the family he loved so deeply.
