Jerrel Andrew Price, 99, of Conroe, Texas went home to the Lord on November 3, 2023. He was born August 15, 1924 in Lovelady, Texas to Gus and Pearl Price. At 17 years old, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served in active duty during World War II. He met the love of his life, Emma Louise Fechner, in Houston, Texas. Jerrel and Louise were married in 1947. They had three dear children: Jerry Andrew, Michael Gus, and Deborah Jean.

Jerrel began his career with the Houston Police Department as part of Academy Class #7 in 1951. He was an officer serving the Houston community for 30 years before retiring in 1981. Along with two brothers, a brother-in-law, son, and nephew, their family had the most combined years of service by any one family in HPD history at that time. While living in Houston, Jerrel and Louise and their family faithfully served at Bethel Baptist Church making many cherished friendships which lasted their entire lives.

Upon retirement, with the help of friends and family, they built a home in Huntsville, Texas. It was here that Jerrel began his love of gardening. He became especially skilled at pruning trees and helped countless friends and loved ones improve the health of their yards and gardens. Jerrel and Louise served at First Baptist Church Dodge and then Northside Baptist Church in Huntsville. He was a deacon and Sunday school teacher for 55 years.

One of his favorite pastimes was playing the domino game "42". Anyone who has played with Jerrel has a 42 story about him. He had an unorthodox style which always kept his partners on their toes. You would not have been surprised to hear of him bidding 41 with a straight 5 off. Yet somehow (with the help of his partner!) he would win the hand.

While gardening, and trees, and 42 were great hobbies, Jerrel will most especially be remembered for his love for the Lord and commitment to winning souls for Christ. He designed and printed tracts which clearly detailed the gospel story and devotedly handed them out to everyone he encountered. This practice continued until the day of his death and will be carried on by his loved ones for years to come. During the consultation prior to his recent hip surgery, he asked his surgeon if he loved the Lord. This was a question and conversation that Jerrel rarely missed an opportunity to have. Quite likely, hundreds of souls will be going to heaven as he both sowed some and reaped many others to accept Christ as their Lord and Savior.

Jerrel Andrew was preceded in death by his parents, Gus and Pearl, siblings Carl Price, Edith Stansel, Louie Price, Sanford Price, and Ernestine Driskell, daughter-in-law Rebecca Price, and his cherished wife of 59 years, Louise. He is survived by his beloved children who cared for him steadfastly: son Jerry Price and wife Sue of Conroe, son Mike Price and wife Janice of Conroe, and daughter Debbie Sherber and husband Doug of Montgomery. His grandchildren adored their Papa: Olivia Vix and husband Mike of Cypress, Jason Sherber and wife Julie of Houston, Karen Price of Tomball, Steven Sherber of Montgomery, Kimberly Price of Tomball, Lauren Rhodes and husband Dustin of Leander, and Anna Connors and husband David of Catonsville, Maryland. His great-grandchildren were the light of his life: Colton Vix and wife Chelsea, Emma Vix, Reagan Sherber, Reese Sherber, Nicholas Rhodes, Lucas Conners and Caitlyn Rhodes. A great-great grandson, Cayde Vix, is expected to join the family in early 2024 and he will hear endless stories of his Papa Price as he grows up. Jerrel is also survived by his siblings Bobbie Ham of Lovelady, Jimmie Ray and Peggy Price of Lovelady, and Troy Driskell of Lovelady as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

We rejoice that Jerrel has received quite a welcome in heaven with many rewards for his love of the Lord and love for the countless men, women, and children whose lives were touched by his prayers and generosity.
