Following a lengthy illness, Mrs. Jaunice Ware, peacefully passed from this life to her heavenly home. She died at The Methodist Hospital, The Woodlands, Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at the age of 89.
Mrs. Ware was born November 21, 1934, to Elvie and Jewell Kerr Drawhorn, in Rosevine, Sabine County, Texas, where she lived and attended school. She graduated from Rosevine Elementary and Bronson High School. She went on to further her education at Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, Texas, and Sam Houston State University, in Huntsville.
As a young married lady, she moved to Huntsville, Texas in 1953, for her husband to attend Sam Houston State University. She and her husband, Billy R. Ware, made Huntsville their home, until her death.
Mrs. Ware was employed by the Texas Department of Corrections and later Sam Houston State University for a total of 38 years. She was a loyal Bearkat supporter, especially enjoying football and basketball games. She was also a Life Member of the Alumni Association at SHSU.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Paul. She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Billy R. Ware, her sister Geraldine Blackstock, of Lumberton, Texas, and six nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers Memorial Contributions may be made to the Texas Prison Museum at 491 Hwy 75 North, Huntsville, Texas 77320 or the Sam Houston Athletic Basketball Program. Checks can be made out to SHSU with the designation (or Memo) Men's Basketball Enrichment, mailed to University Advancement, Box 2537, Huntsville, Texas 77341-2537.
Visitation for Mrs. Ware will be Monday, October 7, 2024, at 10:00 AM, with the service to follow at 11:00. Burial will be at 3:00 PM, at the Rosevine Cemetery, in Rosevine, Sabine County, Texas. Funeral Services are under the direction of Heritage Oak Funeral Home, Huntsville, Texas, with Reagan Cooksey officiating.
