Janet Rose Hobbs, 91, peacefully entered the presence of her Lord on March 21, 2026. At the time of her passing, she was recovering from a broken hip, facing the challenge with the same resilience and grace that defined her life.

Born on February 5, 1935, to Leslie and Beulah Rose, Janet was raised in Clarksville, Texas, as the eldest of three daughters. Her life's journey was rooted in an unwavering faith, a devotion to family, and a deep love for the communities she served.

Janet's natural gift for nurturing children led her to a lifelong career in education. She attended East Texas State University in Commerce, graduating in 1955 with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. It was during her college years that a blind date led her to the love of her life, George Hobbs. They were married on June 2, 1956, embarking on a devoted partnership that spanned nearly seven decades. At the time of her passing, they were just months shy of celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary.

As a dedicated educator for 40 years, Janet left an indelible mark on generations of students. Her career began in the White Oak Independent School District, followed by tenures in Brazosport and Grand Prairie. The couple eventually settled in Huntsville, Texas, where George accepted a position as an Assistant Professor at Sam Houston State University.

In Huntsville, Janet taught first grade at Huntsville Elementary before transitioning into leadership as a Supervisor for Elementary Curriculum. She was later tapped to serve as the Principal of the Pre-School in the historic Huntsville High School building, a position she held until her retirement in 1995. Even in retirement, her passion for teaching endured as she supervised student teachers for Sam Houston State University in surrounding districts.

Janet's life was a testament to the importance of faith. Having accepted Christ as her Savior at a young age, she spent many summers sharing her testimony at church camps. She found great joy in gospel music and was a steadfast member of First Presbyterian Church for 58 years, where she served faithfully on numerous committees.

Janet is preceded in death by her loving parents, Leslie and Beulah Rose; sister and brother in law Marilyn and Bob Lumpkins; niece Mary Leslie Lumpkins; and Jerry Steward brother in law.

Survivors include George Hobbs, her loving husband of almost 70 years; daughter Roseann Miller and husband Jeff of Tomball; daughter, Susan Templeton; and sister Mary Alice Steward; beloved grandchildren, Ramsey Miller and Reagan Miller and his wife Lauren, and Emma Templeton and Matthew Templeton and numerous nieces and nephews.

Janet was blessed to have wonderful caregivers, Pat Oliphant and Mary Ann Rohrbach, who along with the staff at Benchmark Hospice,  gave her encouragement and care when she needed it the most, and Brenda and Milton Brock who went above and beyond the call of duty.

Visitation will be held at Heritage Oak Funeral Home on Friday, March 27th from 5-7 PM.  Janet will be transported to Clarksville, Texas for a graveside service and burial under the direction of Heritage Oak Funeral Home in New Shamrock Presbyterian Church Cemetery on Saturday, March 28th at 2 PM.
