James Samuel "Sam" Walker Sr. was born on May 4, 1953 and went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, April 18, 2022, at the age of 68. He was the son of Doyle and Erma Walker of Huntsville, Texas. Sam was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.  He remained in Huntsville where he met his High School Sweetheart, best friend and wife, Veronica Wood Walker. Sam served his community as a dedicated Christian, rancher and volunteer to many people and causes. Most of all, he loved his family. Sam and Veronica married September 15, 1972, and raised two children, Kristie and Samuel.  He graduated from Huntsville High School in 1971, where he was an active member of FFA and rodeo.  After graduating high school, he continued his education at Sam Houston State University, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminology and Corrections while beginning his career at TDCJ. He then joined the family business where he was well known and loved by many at Huntsville Feed & Farm, Inc. years later he transitioned to Sam Houston State University where he retired. Sam was a fourth generation Cattleman and took pride in raising quality cattle. He was a true cowboy and enjoyed passing on his knowledge to his children, grandchildren, and anyone willing to learn. In his adult years, Sam continued to immerse himself in service to the youth of Walker County by being an Adult Leader in the 4-H Horse Club, a founder and committeeman for the commercial heifer program, serving on the ASC committee, and being a member of the Livestock Committee by sharing his talents.  He was also an active member of the WCFA Rodeo Committee where he enjoyed sharing his passion and stories.  He was also an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed the thrill of the hunt, whether it was chasing a coon or hog with hounds, or patiently waiting for a deer.  Sam will be remembered for his commitment and loyalty to his faith, family, and community. He was a deacon and Sunday school teacher at Cook Springs Baptist Church for many years. His passion for the Lord was a witness to all, which brought many to know the Lord. I can hear the Lord say, "Well done my good and faithful servant."  Sam was preceded in death by his father and mother, Doyle and Erma Walker, brother Mark D. Walker, and twin brothers. He is survived by his wife, Veronica Walker, daughter Kristie Herring and husband Jabe, son Samuel Walker and wife Charity; 3 grandchildren, Hardi Herring, Bristol Walker and Weston Walker, three brothers and many loved ones.  The family would like to thank all the wonderful staff at STAT Home Health and St. Joseph Hospice for their love and care. With special thanks to MeMe and Millie.  Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 21, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. at Cook Springs Baptist Church in Walker County, Texas with Bro. Robert Nichols officiating. Family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday, April 21, 2022 from 1 P.M. - 2 P.M. at Cooks Springs Baptist Church in Huntsville, Texas.
