James Edward Collum, a devoted man of faith, beloved husband,  brother, father figure and uncle, passed away on March 15, 2025, at the  age of 86. Born on September 4, 1938, in Sylacauga, Alabama, James  later moved back to Huntsville, Texas, to help his mother raise his  younger siblings.

James was a man of many talents and a dedicated worker throughout his  life. He served his community in various roles, working at Huntsville Funeral Home, Moore Henry Motors, Fails Furniture and he and his  wife, Nannette, owned a court reporting business. His entrepreneurial  spirit led him to establish two music studios, where he shared his passion  for music. James also worked alongside his brother, Derwood Collum,  building houses and drawing blueprints, demonstrating his keen eye for  design and craftsmanship.

A faithful servant of God, James was an active member of Second  Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and taught Sunday school for many decades. His dedication to his faith was evident in the way he  lived his life—always with kindness, integrity, and a heart for helping  others.

Outside of his work and faith, James had a deep love for music,  excelling as a talented guitar player and musician. He played in  Nashville with some of the top talent in the country. He also found joy  in playing golf and spending time at the shooting range, embracing life  with enthusiasm and skill in everything he pursued.

James is survived by his wife, Nannette Bennett Collum, his sister, Janice  Collum Murphree and husband Ed, Sisters in Law Nancy Collum and Rachel Bennett Robinson, Brother in Law Dr. Mac L. Bennett III & wife Sandra, Brother in Law Robert Bennett and wife Bobbye and Brother in Law William Calvin (W.C.) Bennett and wife Candy and many cherished nieces and nephews. He is preceded in  death by his parents Richard Clarence Collum and Janie Smith Collum; siblings: Vernon Ray Collum, Richard Collum II, Derwood Collum, and Jerri Collum Brown. He will be remembered for his unwavering faith,  his many talents, and the love he shared with those around him.

James leaves behind a legacy of devotion, hard work, and love that will  continue to inspire all who knew him.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 19, 2025 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Heritage Oak Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Thursday, March 20, 2025 at Second Huntsville beginning at 1:00pm with interment to follow at the Mayes Addition of Oakwood Cemetery.
