Iris (Cooper) Brown, age 96, passed away peacefully surrounded by family in her home on December 15, 2024. She was born in Doucette, Texas on August 16, 1928, to Newt Cooper and Sarah Rose Cooper. She is preceded in death by her father, Newt Cooper and mother Sarah Rose Cooper, brothers Nolan Ray (Jack) Cooper, Robert Jefferson Cooper (Buddy) and her sisters Dorothy Inez Cooper Bright and Verna (Doodle) Simmons. Former son in law William T. Nichols. Along with her granddaughter Kelly Robinson. She is survived by her daughter Sandy Brown Nichols, granddaughter Kasey Nichols, great granddaughter Cheyenne Robinson Dane and her husband Derek Dane, great grandson Chandler Robinson and great great grandson Brooks McCaffety-Robinson. Along with many great friends and family.

In September of 1946, she met Leon Brown after he returned from the service. They would meet through friends at an old park where movies were played for the community. They didn't date too long, were soon married and welcomed their daughter Sandy in November of 1948. Her husband Leon finished welding school and they would move to Galveston, Tx for his job. After a few years of working in the shipyard they would move back to Houston. He began working for Southwest Fabricating and Iris kept the home and raised their daughter. They would then build their life in Houston; spending time with friends, family and their church. Iris would then take a job managing the Glenwood Village Apartments in Houston for the next 23 years. Most of their weekends were spent in Huntsville, Tx working on clearing their property and building their forever home. Upon retirement, Iris and Leon moved to Huntsville. Her and Leon would then start a cleaning business which would keep them busy for years. That is until she began another business sewing heirloom items and joined the Red Hat Society with her best girl friends. She was a member of Second Baptist Church for over 20 years and always had her great grandkids in the front pew and at vacation bible school.

It's hard to talk about Iris without talking about her husband Leon. They did everything together and had a marriage one could really look up to- 73 years of marriage to be exact. She enjoyed the simple, yet beautiful things in life. She had a love for flowers, crafting, sewing, cooking and always needed to know what we were having for dessert. Speaking of, her oatmeal cookies were something her family would hide from each other because they are that good. Her home holds so many memories for so many generations of her family. From Kelly and Kasey spending the weekends with their cousins, Cheyenne and Chandler growing up in her home and countless more wonderful stories to tell.

Iris truly lived a life of love and service with a smile on her face. Whether she was helping raise all the babies in her family, sending you a Christmas card or making you dinner. It was with a genuine heart. She kept God as her cornerstone all throughout her life, and believed true security can only be found in the grace and mercy of God. Iris will always be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandma and friend. She will be deeply missed by all of us. We look forward to the day we meet again and rejoice with the Lord.
