Mar 5, 1931 — Jun 22, 2024
Ida Jean "Dixie" Baldwin, 93, of Huntsville Texas went to join her beloved family in heaven on June 22, 2024. She was the seventh of eight children born to James Marion Baldwin and Alice Byrd Baldwin on March 5th 1931, in Huntsville, Texas. Ida was given the name "Dixie" by her older sister Katie (Baldwin) Foreman when Ida was just a young child. From that point forward she was always known by her friends and family as "Dixie".
"Dixie" grew up in Huntsville and worked at the family's restaurant downtown known as The Baldwin Cafe. She graduated from Huntsville High School and then enrolled at Sam Houston State Teachers College where she received her bachelor's of science degree in education. Upon graduation, she was hired by the Edna ISD thanks in large part to the recommendation of Dr. Montgomery, one of her professors at Sam Houston. "Dixie" loved her time with Edna ISD and retired after 31 years of service to the district. After retirement "Dixie" moved back home to Huntsville to rejoin her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Alice Baldwin, her brothers James "Buddy" Baldwin (Vernie), William "Bill" Baldwin, Philip Baldwin (Penny), and Harold Baldwin Sr (Betty), sisters Katie Foreman (Robert), Ahlene Lively (Eugene) and Francis Munger (Nelson), niece, Diane Davidson and nephew, Butch Lively. "Dixie" is survived by her niece and caregiver Kay Bennett, nieces Phyllis Smith, Becky Merritt, Bonnie Nava, Carolyn Baldwin David, Betty Williams, Barbara Harder, nephews James Baldwin, Dennis Lively, Tommy Lively, Hal Baldwin and Billy Baldwin. "Dixie" is also survived by numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.
