Hugh Dale
Costilow
Jul 25, 1941 — Aug 5, 2022
Montgomery
Hugh Dale Costilow was born July 25, 1941 in Huntsville, TX and he went to heaven on August 5,
2022. Growing up, Dale spent a lot of time on his grandparent's farm with his brother Don. He
loved the outdoors, horses and cows.
Dale graduated from high school in Pasadena, TX where his parents were both teachers. He
served in the Marine Corp in Vietnam for 2 years and served in the Texas Army National Guard.
After he came home from Vietnam, he attended college on the GI bill and graduated with a
degree from Sam Houston University. He loved his family and worked hard to take care of
them. He was a police officer for 34 years and had a security company for 25 years. He was very
smart and could do anything he put his mind to. He shoed horses, he made whips, and he had a
general store. After he retired, he spent time as a "cowboy hat wearing Uber driver" and also
personally transported inmates to jails all over Texas.
Dale enjoyed spending time with his family. He always had something going on and kept his
kids busy learning to work hard – he taught them to shoot and taught them in the blacksmith
shop. They loved New Braunfels and spent time there every summer. They also went to
Colorado. He enjoyed riding his horse. He went deer hunting with his sons. He cared for the
family Brimberry cemetery, mowing and treating old headstones and he developed an interest
in genealogy. He spent time with his brother Don when he was sick, and he helped take his
nephew Mark to the doctor when he was fighting cancer. The past few years as his health
declined, he enjoyed taking care of his horse and spending time outside.
Dale loved the Lord and every Sunday; he would be at the Chapel of the Lakes church. For
years, if asked if he would be at church, his answer was "if I'm alive". Dale and Jeannie enjoyed
going out to eat at The China Buffet and Long John's Silver on Sundays after church. Dale was a
good man and beloved husband and father. He worked hard to provide for his family. "But as
for me, I shall sing of Your strength; Yes, I shall joyfully sing of Your lovingkindness in the
morning, for You have been my stronghold and a refuge in the day of my distress." Psalm 59:16
Dale is survived by his wife of 53 years Jeannie Roberts Costilow, his daughter Gayle Guardado
and her daughters Sadie and Abby, son Kurt Costilow, and son Wade Costilow. He was
preceded in death by his son Cliff Costilow, brother Don Costilow and parents Drue and Nezzie
Costilow.
There will be a graveside service to honor Dale at the Brimberry Cemetery. Huntsville, TX on
