Obituary

Henrietta "Etta" Marie Culak entered eternal rest on June 17, 2025.

She was born on November 3, 1927, in Shiner, Texas to Emil and Edna Laqua. She spent her childhood on the family cotton farm in the Moulton area and graduated from Moulton High School.

On July 3, 1948, she married Anton "Tony" Culak, and they moved to Houston, Texas where they spent 49 years together until his death in 1998.

In 1951, their first child, Dennis, was born. A daughter, Carol, followed in 1953, and son, Donald, completed the family in 1954.

Henrietta was a devoted wife and mother. She was a fantastic cook and baker, and was known for her crispy fried chicken breasts, German chocolate cakes, and chocolate chip cookies.

Henrietta loved working in her yard. She won "Yard of the Month" several times due to her manicured lawn and hundreds of caladiums.

Henrietta was blessed with five grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. They were the love of her life, and she loved spoiling them.

She was preceded in death by her husband Anton "Tony" Culak, parents Emil and Edna Laqua, an infant granddaughter, and sister ElRose Kostak.

She is survived by her son Dennis and wife Paula (Huntsville), daughter Carol Lanier and husband Gus (El Paso), and son Donald and wife Glynda (Magnolia). Grandchildren Tony (Michelle) and Adam (Janet) Culak, Brent and Lance Lanier, and Jason (Krystina) Culak. Great grandchildren Anthony, Caleb, Lanie, Katie, Caleb, Matthew, Landon, Logan, Liam, and Adelaide. Great-great granddaughter Adalynn.

She is also survived by her sister Glorine Glaser, brother Eugene Laqua, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Heritage Oak Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 1, beginning at 5:00 pm, with a Rosary to follow at 7:00 pm. A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, July 2nd, at 10:30 am at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. A reception will be held in her honor following the Mass in the Parish Hall.
