It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gary Richard Gibson, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, who left this world on June 27, 2025, at his home in Huntsville, Texas, due to complications from Parkinson's Disease. Gary was born on February 2, 1942, in New York City, NY, to George and Annetta Gibson, who instilled in him the values of hard work, discipline, and compassion.

Gary's life was marked by a profound dedication to his family, his faith, and his community. He married the love of his life, Jean Clark, on July 31, 1970, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Temple in Los Angeles, California. Together, they created a home filled with love and laughter, raising their four sons, Spencer Gibson, Jeff Gibson, Jonny Gibson and Dave Gibson. He is survived by Jean, Spencer, Jeff, Jonny and Dave, who will all continue to carry on his legacy. Gary took great pride in his role as a father in law to Jana Gibson, Jessica Gibson, and Jill Minnix, as well as grandfather to Tanner, Mckenna, Kara, Lexi, Chance (1/24/2003-12/18/2021), Luke, Avery, Caden, Mia, Maggie, Tyler, Cambree, Chloe, Emery, and Ellie Faith (great granddaughter), each of whom brought him immense joy.

A proud veteran, Gary served in the Air Force Reserves from 1960 to 1966 as a Psychiatric Ward Specialist, an experience that would shape his understanding of human relationships and compassion for others. He went on to pursue higher education at Brigham Young University, earning his Bachelor of Science in 1974 and a Master of Science in Child Development and Family Relationships in 1979. His academic pursuits paved the way for a fulfilling career in education, where he dedicated over three decades to teaching and mentoring students as a Professor and Academic Division Chair of Psychology and Sociology at Lee College from 1982 to 2010. He also served as an Adjunct Professor at North Harris Junior College and Our Lady of the Lake, inspiring countless students with his passion for learning.

Gary was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served in various capacities, including Bishopric, High Counsel, and youth leadership roles. His commitment to his faith was evident throughout his life, including his service as a missionary in New Zealand from February 1964 to February 1966. Gary was also an enthusiastic coach and leader in the community, particularly in youth and church sports, where his encouraging spirit and dedication to fostering teamwork made a lasting impact on young lives.

Gary's love for life was evident in his many hobbies and interests. He was an avid reader, a skilled guitarist, enjoyed golf, running, and swimming. He cherished college sports and took immense pride in attending his kids' and grandkids' sporting events. He had a special fondness for breakfast foods and a keen eye for capturing life's moments through photography.

Those who knew Gary will remember him as a devoted husband and father, a faithful member of the LDS Church, and a dependable and reliable friend. He was known for his loving nature, strong work ethic, and disciplined approach to life.

Gary is preceded in death by his cherished grandson, Chance Gibson, whose memory will forever be held close in the hearts of his family.

A viewing will be held in his honor on July 7, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Heritage Oak Funeral Home located at 1080 I-45 South, Huntsville, TX 77340. The funeral service will take place on July 8, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Huntsville, TX.

Gary Richard Gibson leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and unwavering faith. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, and his spirit will continue to inspire those he touched throughout his remarkable life.
