Dr. Ennis M. Hawkins, 79, of Huntsville, Texas went to be with our Lord and Savior after a courageous battle with cancer on August 8, 2022,  surrounded by his family.

Ennis was born February 28th, 1943 in Naples, Texas to Howard and Doris Hawkins.  He graduated from Omaha-Naples Paul H. Pewitt High School  in 1961 and continued his education earning a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting and Masters of Business Administration in Accounting from Texas A&M University in 1965 and 1966, respectively.  He then earned a Doctorate in Business Administration  from Texas Tech University in 1974.  Ennis married Kay Davis on July 19, 1964.  They were married for 58 years.  Ennis and Kay were blessed with three sons, Donald, Brian, and David.

Dr. Hawkins dedicated his career to educating others.  In 1966 he joined the faculty at Sam Houston State University and served as a faculty member and Chair of the Department of Accounting from 1982 to 1986.

Dr. Hawkins was respected by students, faculty, staff, and friends at Sam Houston State University where he provided 43 years of dedicated service. He retired in the spring of 2009.   In addition to being a Certified Public Accountant, he is a Certified Managerial Accountant, and a Certified Internal Auditor.

To help accounting students prepare for the uniform CPA Exam, Hawkins and three other accounting professors used published past exam questions to develop a computerized software program they named "MicroMash."  As one of the founders Hawkins is the "H" in Mash.

Ennis and Kay were members of the First Baptist Church in Huntsville for 56 years where they taught a youth Sunday School class for several years.

Ennis served as a coach for the Huntsville Boys Baseball Association where he coached all three of his sons' baseball teams.  He loved to be outdoors;  golfing, fishing, hunting, and many trips to Colorado snow skiing.  His greatest joy was spending time with his family, watching grandchildren's sports and activities, and the many trips made with his family and friends.

Ennis is survived by his loving wife Kay; sons and daughters-in-law Donald and Kelly Hawkins of Cypress, Brian and Sandy Hawkins of Georgetown, and David and Anise Hawkins of Drippings Springs; grandchildren Craig, Brandon, Kyle, Carley, Tyler, Langley, and Hailey Hawkins.  He is also survived by his sisters and brother-in-law Nancy and Bobby Abston of Naples and Virginia James of Omaha and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and extended family Coy and Sarah Moreland of Omaha.

Ennis is preceded in death by his parents Howard and Doris Hawkins, his in-laws Carl and Maxine Davis, and his brother and sister-in-law James and Brenda Hawkins.

Visitation will be on Sunday, August 14th at Heritage Oaks Funeral Home in Huntsville from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.

Funeral Services will be Monday, August 15th at First Baptist Church in Huntsville at 11:00 am under the direction of Dr. Jason Bay.  Burial will be in the Omaha Cemetery at a later date.
