Dorthy Jernigan Houchin, 85, of Huntsville died peacefully in her home on April 20, 2023. She spent the last days of her life surrounded by family and friends.

She was born on January 23, 1938 in Seagraves, Texas. Dorthy met the love of her life, Jerry Houchin, in Shallowater, Texas. They were married on December 5, 1957 and celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary earlier this year.

Dorthy was a wonderful and loving wife and mother who gave her all to her family and to her faith. She was very active in the women's ministry at Huntsville Church of Christ and was a mentor to many.

Dorthy is survived by her husband Jerry, along with three children: Kerry Houchin and wife Melanie, Kevin Houchin and wife Melissa, and Kathy Allen and husband Mike. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, Zach, Trey, and Bryce Allen, Katy, Karly, Kyndall, Chad and Sarah Houchin, and 4 great-grandchildren, Jasper, Skip, Palmer, and Page Allen, as well as her older sister, Claudine Nimmo.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Claud and Opal Jernigan, her sister Melba Burr, and brother Jake Jernigan.

Visitation will be Sunday, April 23rd, from 4-6 PM at Heritage Oak funeral home in Huntsville, Texas.

A celebration of Dorthy's life will be held Monday, April 24, at 10:00am at Huntsville Church of Christ. Freddie Anderson will be officiating.
