Doris Lewis "Lu" Gresham

Lu Gresham was born at Burke, Kentucky 16 January 1931 to John L. Lewis and Vivian Maddox Lewis and died 15 September 2026. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, George C. "Neil" Gresham; brothers A.L. "Brownie" Lewis and James M. Lewis; sisters Pattie Midkiff, Ramona Schmidt and infant Lillian Elizabeth Lewis along with three sons-in-law, Scott Bouyear, Phil Grant and Jerry Corner.

Lu is survived by her daughter Lola B. Grant of Pearland; daughter Renate J. Corner and husband Robert Gilliam of Huntsville; grandson Jerry Daniel Corner and wife Emily of Huntsville; granddaughters Laura Jones and husband Mark of Houston; Christin Grant Petty and husband Robin of Pearland; Anthony Gilliam and partner MarieCris Tolentino of Richmond, CA; Terry Richey and wife Bree of Martinez, CA; Ryan Gilliam and wife Christine of El Sobrante, CA; 15 great grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, John L. Lewis, Jr. of Sardinia, Ohio and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

After attending schools at Sandy Hook and Morehead, Kentucky, Lu spent 1949-1952 in the Women's Army Corps. She and George met in Heidelberg, Germany where they were stationed at an Army Dental Laboratory. They married in 1953 and his military service took them to many places, including Paris, France where both daughters were born; Asmara, Ethiopia and Silver Spring, Maryland before moving to Huntsville in 1967 following George's retirement from the Army. They then operated Gresham Dental Laboratory for 25 years.

Lu loved and enjoyed entertaining family and friends, traveling with family and participating in various groups in Huntsville. She especially enjoyed her volunteer work. She created over 300 beautiful and patriotic lap quilts for wounded veterans as a volunteer at the H.E.A.R.T.S Veteran's Museum and her 50 years as a volunteer at Huntsville Memorial Hospital was a particular source of pride. She received a pin for over 12,000 hours of service.

There will be a Lie-In-State on Tuesday, September 22, 2026 at Heritage Oak Funeral Home from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 23, 2026 at Heritage Oak Funeral Home beginning at 9:00am and a service will follow beginning at 10:00am. Mrs. Gresham will be laid to rest at McKnight Cemetery in Cushing, Texas.
