Doris Marie Brown was born September 20, 1935, in Huntsville, Texas, to Granville Grant (G.G.) Sanders and Lola Beatrice (Bea) Smith Sanders, and went to be with the Lord on May 10, 2025. She is survived by her children, Marilyn Brown Batterton (Terry) and Larry Brown (Carol); grandchildren, Traci Brown Walker (John) and Daniel Cody Brown; and great grandchildren, Madelyn Nicole Walker-Mead, Rosemarri Belle Walker, Greysen Marie Caye Walker, John Cutter Brown and Jacie Faith Brown; and one brother, Lee Roy Sanders (Dolores) of Waxahachie, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 67 years, Herman Brown; her parents; and her sister, Louise Sanders Rogers. She was also preceded in death recently by her younger cousin, Kevin Wayne Morse, of Pasadena who loved her dearly.

Doris, also known as Dolly, Mama, Mom, Grandma, Doll-Doll, Aunt Dolly, was a quiet and gentle woman who loved God and her family and always wore a sweet smile. She and Herman took great pleasure in being a part of the lives of their grandchildren and especially with the great grandchildren, who each shared a rare and special bond with their great grandparents.

Doris had been a member of University Heights Baptist Church since the early 1950s. She and Herman worked in the church nursery together for about 20 years and had many fond memories of the children they watched grow up there. Although unable to attend in recent years, after streaming became available she made sure someone came by and set up the television every Sunday so that she could watch the service from home.

Doris was a lifetime member of the Walker County Fair Association where she served as a member of the Scramble Heifer Committee and worked in Admissions for many years.

Doris had a life-long love of sewing and often made outfits for all the kids in the family along with costumes for Halloween and other special events. She had many hobbies over the years—crochet, cross stitch, quilting, ceramics, wood working and painting her creations to name a few—and collecting books and magazines about all of the above.

She was also an avid Astros fan who rarely missed a televised game. She and Herman had nicknames for the players (Altuve was Shorty). Most of the family got to be with her to watch one last game the Sunday before her death.

Doris began her career at Southwestern Bell Telephone as a telephone operator in the early 1960s and retired from the Engineering Department in the mid-1980s.

The family would like to thank Amedisys Hospice for their excellent services. We are especially thankful for Zola Bryant who under the direction of Pat Oliphant took such tender care of our beloved mother in her final weeks. We are also grateful to Janice Waldrup, another of Miss Pat's special ladies, who filled in when Zola had to be away.
