Don D.
"Buck" Hightower
Mar 4, 1935 — Jan 16, 2026
Huntsville
Don David "Buck" Hightower, 90, of New Waverly, Texas passed away peacefully on January 16, 2026, at his home. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Frances Slott Hightower, infant daughter Donna Marie Hightower, parents, Alfred and Gladys Hightower, and sisters, Peggy Jean Kroesche, Dolly Anne Koenning, Mona Minter, and Mary Ellen Chron.
Buck was born on March 4, 1935 in Huntsville, Texas and attended Huntsville schools. After graduation, he joined the Navy and served one tour before returning to the Huntsville area. On August 12, 1961, he married the love of his life, Mary Frances Slott and they shared 63 wonderful years together. Whether traveling, hunting or working cattle, they were inseparable. Buck's career led him in several directions, but his final job was with Sam Houston State University. All the while, he was the ultimate cowboy. Nothing made him happier than being on a horse or tractor, and raising cattle or attending an auction to buy more. Buck and Mary Frances were very involved in the community and generously supported many groups and organizations.
Buck is survived by his brothers Clarence Hightower (Susan), and Gerald Hightower, and sister Betty Schatz (Lyndon), numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
We want to give a special thanks to his wonderful caregivers, Antionette Burleson, Aryanna Burleson, Bryannia Burleson and Beth Ann Badger and his many friends who called and came to visit Buck as his health declined.
To honor his wish, there will be a visitation at 10:00 am January 20, 2026 at Elmina Cemetery, 41 Elmina Rd. New Waverly, Texas and a graveside service following at 11:00 am with Fr. Fred Valone officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Buck's memory be made to the New Waverly 4-H Community Club PO Box 657 New Waverly, TX 77358
