Obituary

Danny Ray Ticknor went home to be with Jesus on August 3, 2023, at the age of 70, with his wife by his side. Dan was born on December 23, 1952, to JD and Ruby Ticknor in Tomball, TX and was the youngest of nine children. Dan moved to Huntsville, TX in 1980 where he worked for TDCJ for 25 years until he retired as an Assistant plant Manager. While working for TDCJ, he started his own lawn care business in 2000 and continued his business well after his retirement. When Dan reached his 60s, he got out of the lawn care business and went to work as a security officer at Huntsville Memorial Hospital until he retired again in 2022. He was a hard worker and at most times had two jobs.

Dan loved to be outside working in the yard, piddling around in his shop, and looking after his chickens.

When the weather was right, he loved to be on the water fishing or in the deer stand. He loved anything outdoors and he enjoyed sitting on the porch watching the deer in his yard. He was the best grandpa and loved his grandchildren more than anything. He always enjoyed when they came to visit and would take them fishing or for rides on his four-wheeler. The memories they created are priceless!

On February 28, 2023, Dan was diagnosed with small-cell lung cancer. He fought this ugly disease head on, and never wavered. He was more concerned about being around for his wife, children, and grandchildren than he was for himself. He was the most courageous man and he fought hard. He knew his time was limited and he made the most of it!

He is survived by his loving wife, Linda of 30 years, his daughters Kathy Hurley and husband Brandon of Huntsville, TX, Kim Griffin and husband Jerod of New Waverly, TX, Kelley Pegoda and husband Brandon of Huntsville, TX, Karen Wells of New Waverly, TX, and bonus son Christopher Christian and wife Stephanie of Yukon, OK. Grandchildren include Dalton Hurley, Dallas Hurley, Kynsley Griffin, Kanin Griffin, Konnor Griffin, Jayce Wells, Jordan Wells, Bohannon Pegoda, Jennings Pegoda, Caitlyn Christian, Linsey Christian, and Avery Christian. Brother Rex Ticknor and wife Vickie, sister Carolyn Cavaness and husband Pierre, sister Linda Hibbs, and sister Lorene Ticknor.

Dan is preceded in death by his parents, JD and Ruby Ticknor, his brother Tommy Ticknor, half-brothers Reagan and James Calhoun, and half-sister Betty Lenox.
