Charles Dale Battles, born on October 26, 1959, in Tulsa, Oklahoma was sent to his eternal home on February 11, 2025, peacefully in his home in Huntsville, Texas.

Chuck, as he was affectionately known, was a beacon of light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him.  His journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion, and unwavering faith in God.  His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends and many more whose lives were touched by him.  We ask that you remember him for the way his life was lived and for the profound impact it had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Chuck is survived by his wife, Celeste Martinez Battles; his sons Lane Battles and Garrett Wells; his daughter Leighann Wells; his sister Marjie Battles and many nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his parents William and Sharba Battles and his brother Jimmy Battles.

During his high school years, he became involved in the rodeo.  He was a world ranked bull rider and cowboy.  He also trained horses and traded and sold bulls for rodeo events.  He began his Texas Department of Criminal Justice career in 1987 where he worked as a correctional officer and promoted through the ranks to Lieutenant at several different units and Inmate Transportation retiring in 2009 after serving 22 years.  He then returned in 2010 as a correctional officer and worked his way back through the ranks to Captain in the Training and Leader Development Division. During his tenure at the Region 1 Training Academy, a total of 11,523 cadets graduated from the pre-service academy.

Needless to say, he was a positive influence in many lives.  In 2015, he was recognized as the Training Sergeant of the year and was a vital member of the Crisis Negotiation Team for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.  He spent a total of 38 years with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. He was the true definition of a leader; he influenced others towards a common goal daily and was truly a mentor and has left a legacy within the agency.  He spent 18 years with Marburger Farms working security at the Antique Show in Round Top with a close group of friends.

He spent his days with the love of his life enjoying time in the swimming pool, hot tub and sitting on the front porch taking in the sunshine.  They enjoyed listening to music and most of all he loved Celeste's home cooked meals. He said that gravy was its own food group.  Not only were they married but they were best friends.   He also loved meeting family and friends for crawfish and Mexican food.

The Celebration of Life service to honor the life of Charles Dale Battles will be held on Monday, February 17, 2025, at 10:00 am at Heritage Oaks Funeral Home at 1080 I-45 South, Huntsville, TX.
