It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Carol Powell Germany, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and lifelong educator, who passed away unexpectedly on November 29, 2024, three days shy of her 66th birthday.

For over 30 years, Carol dedicated her life to elementary school education. Her passion for teaching students to read, combined with her deep love for children, made her an unforgettable presence in their lives. She was a nurturing teacher who inspired countless young minds, always seeking to instill the values of kindness, curiosity, and perseverance. Her impact on the local school community, through her years as a teacher, will be felt for generations to come.

Carol was also a devoted mother to her son and daughter, and grandmother to two precious grandchildren whom she adored beyond measure. Her longtime marriage with James Germany created an example of partnership and adventure for her children. She cherished every moment spent with her family, always putting their needs first and providing love, guidance, and support in every aspect of their lives. Her unwavering faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she found strength in her relationship with God, which she shared with others through her actions and words.

Outside of her work and family, Carol was passionate about the outdoors. She and James especially loved to travel with their RV, taking the camper all over Texas and across a dozen other states – a passion that started for Carol in her childhood, raised by two loving parents who enjoyed camping and boating with their family.

Carol, along with her three siblings and their spouses, fulfilled a lifelong dream of visiting Alaska this year, where she got to go rafting and experience the Northern Lights, creating treasured memories. Whether it was hiking, gardening, or simply enjoying the beauty of nature, she found peace in the natural world.

Her final week was a beautiful one. She kayaked with her husband at one of their favorite spots in Texas – she really loved her new kayak – visited her mother, siblings, and son in the Dallas area, made Christmas cups with her three-year-old granddaughter, and celebrated Thanksgiving with a full day of food, joy, and family.

Beyond her own family, Carol had a natural gift of making others feel like she was their own family member. With her selfless, thoughtful, and generous nature, she showered people with love and made them feel special in her own unique way. Her infectious spirit, sense of humor, and passion for life will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Carol was born on December 2, 1958, in Dallas, Texas. She earned a bachelor's degree in teaching and a master's degree in early childhood education from Sam Houston State University. She taught at Street Elementary in Coldspring and Scott Johnson Elementary in Huntsville, as well as Faith Lutheran School in Huntsville. From 2013 - 2018, she served on the Faith Lutheran School board, including as president.

She was preceded in death by her father, Raymond Powell. She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Stanley James Germany, her son Aaron Germany and his wife Ashley, her daughter Caitlin Landis and her husband Sam, and her two grandchildren, Abigail and Eli Landis, who will carry her memory and values forward. She is also survived by her mother, Estelle Frank Powell, and her three siblings and their spouses: Gary and Debbie Powell, Lisa and Roy Rabenaldt, and Douglas and Arlene Powell. She is also survived by her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Chris and Brenda Oates, as well as 20 nieces and nephews.

A viewing will be held at Faith Lutheran Church in Huntsville on Wednesday, Dec. 4 at 10 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m., where family, friends, and former students are invited to gather in celebration of her life and legacy.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Faith Lutheran School in honor of Carol's dedication to children and her love of education.

She will be remembered for her boundless love, her devotion to her faith, her love for children, and her unshakeable belief in the goodness of others.
