Obituary

Benny Lou Brewster was born October 7, 1942 to Ben and Hazel Midkiff Rushing in Newton, Texas and passed away peacefully on February 18, 2024.

Benny grew up in Pineland, Texas and graduated from Pineland High School and married Paul Brewster soon after graduation and they began their life together in Jasper, Texas.

A job relocation for Paul moved the family to Huntsville, Texas from Jasper in 1975.  There, they attended Second Baptist Church where Benny remained active until unable to attend in recent years.  She was also very proud of the fact that she continued to work until just a few years ago.

She highly valued spending time with her family and friends. Time spent with her grandkids was the highlight of her days.  She hosted the best tea parties, read numerous books and attended as many volleyball, football and softball games as she could.  She would drop whatever she was doing at any time of day or night to go help when she was needed by anyone.  There was even an unfortunate run-in with a cow in the road on one of her late-night missions when Trent was a baby.

Pineland Day was an opportunity to go home and spend time with family and former classmates.  She spent hours in the evenings catching up with everyone and was the person you went to in order to find out how everyone was doing.  Her brother George Wade was her hero and they spoke often.

In her spare time, she was an expert seamstress, crocheted, quilted, crafted and had a green thumb that could grow all sorts of heritage plants that she started from cuttings gathered from family and friends.  Her Christmas candy was looked forward to every year and she made the best homemade spaghetti and meatballs.

Benny was preceded in death by her mother and father Ben and Hazel Rushing, her husband Paul and her brother George Wade Kelley.

She is survived by daughters Paula May (John) and Redonna Ray, and grandchildren Trent May, Taylor May and Josie Ray.
