Barbara Joan Barnes (2/13/1953 - 12/21/2024)

Barbara Joan Aker Barnes was born in Vernal, Utah on February 13, 1953, to Jimmie Rallen Aker and Juanita Lucille Hartman Aker Smith. She came to Texas via California where she attended school in Houston, Texas. She graduated from Westchester High School in 1971, married the love of her life, Joe Michael Barnes, on December 28, 1973, and graduated from Sam Houston State University in 1975.

Barbara worked for TDCJ for thirty years as an inmate grievance coordinator and use of force analyst until she retired in 2008. She volunteered for many years as the Sunday school secretary at First Assembly of God Church in Huntsville, TX.

Barbara loved her family fiercely and without reservation. She was preceded in death by her parents and stepfather as well as her husband of thirty-eight years. She is survived by her two sons: Joe Harley (wife Crystal) and Michael Dustin (wife Ashley, daughter Brinley).

Barbara's graveside service will be held at Center Hill Cemetery in Oakhurst, Texas on December 26, 2024 at 10am for friends and family.
